Musicians on Caspar Beach
On the last night of our Mendocino to Inglenook trip, I went down to Caspar Beach for one last time. I met two young men, Justin and Ben, who were trying to wrangle a photo of themselves with an iPhone. They noticed that I had a “good” camera and asked if I minded taking a photo of them.
As we chatted, I learned that they were on a songwriting roadtrip and that they have performed together in Nashville. They’re starting to develop a social media presence and needed some shots for their sites. I took a couple of uninspired shots, then told them, “If you guys have a little time, let’s do a full on shoot.” They were game. I walked them back to the Lumber Mill ruins and we hung out together for about an hour. They sang and played the guitar to songs they’d written, which were incredibly moving.
I sent them the shots and followed them on social media. I look forward to seeing updates on their work.
Once again, I was reminded of the wonders that happen when you just go outside without an agenda.
